Citizenship and service learning are key components of social studies. This year, each of my classes will be participating in various service projects throughout the year:
Social Media & Civic Engagement
Social media plays a critical role in students' lives, and it's important to remember that it is a major part of the world today. Becoming an engaged citizen through social media is just as beneficial and important as other types of civic action.
Digital media users talked about how young people use social media for civic engagement.

Students will identify a problem, research possible solutions and alternatives, and develop an action plan for how they might solve the problem.http://www.civiced.org/index.php?page=introduction Students will complete this work in small groups of 3-6.
Students will identify, plan, and participate in a project to help fellow Americans
World History: "Global Citizenship"
Students will identify, plan, and participate in a project that allows them to truly gain a sense of their own global citizenship while helping others in the process. http://www.heifer.org/
